The Pioneer Tasting Tours made their third stop in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 22, bringing a new group of taste testers along for the experience—our corporate leadership team!
Following a day of Leadership Team Meetings, the group traded the conference room for the bustling Assembly Food Hall at Fifth + Broadway. With more than 20 locally curated eateries under one roof, the destination offered an opportunity to explore a wide variety of flavors, discover emerging food trends, and spend time together outside of the usual workday.
Bold Flavors and Familiar Favorites with a Twist
From Southern comfort food to globally inspired dishes, Nashville delivered plenty of inspiration.
Among the highlights were beef birria totchos, a creative twist on traditional loaded tater tots featuring the rich flavors of birria. The hot honey hen melt offered another example of a familiar favorite elevated with a sweet-and-spicy combination, while Indo-Chinese chicken lollipops brought bold international flavors to the table.
The team also explored a variety of bowl concepts, highlighting the versatility of customizable meals that combine different proteins, grains, vegetables, and sauces.
Each dish offered something worth considering, whether it was a unique flavor combination, a creative presentation, or a new approach to an everyday menu item.
Finding Inspiration in the Familiar
One of the biggest takeaways from Nashville was how simple changes can give familiar foods a completely new appeal.
Loaded tater tots, chicken sandwiches, and customizable bowls are all concepts that can translate well to campus dining. But with the addition of trending flavors, unexpected toppings, or a different presentation, these everyday favorites can become something students are excited to try.
Not every idea requires an entirely new menu or station. Sometimes, a new sauce, seasoning, or combination of ingredients is all it takes to bring something fresh to the dining experience.
More Than Just a Food Tour
This stop was a little different from our previous Tasting Tours. Rather than bringing together culinary teams from our partner campuses, Nashville gave our corporate leadership team the opportunity to experience the tour firsthand.
Beyond sampling new foods, the afternoon encouraged conversations about food trends, student preferences, and how we can continue bringing fresh ideas to our dining programs.
It was also a welcome opportunity to step away from meetings, connect as a team, and enjoy some great food along the way.
As our Pioneer Tasting Tours continue, each stop brings a different perspective and new possibilities for our campuses. From Philadelphia to Columbus and now Nashville, the inspiration keeps growing.
After all, great ideas can come from anywhere—even a plate of loaded tater tots!
