In fact, there is broad-based expression of strong satisfaction. My more direct experience has been the company’s catering services which have always been first-class. Equally important, they have kept in place an onsite manager who understands and responds well to the parochial characteristics of the campus community. While Fall 2022 was my first semester at University of Providence, I have nearly 30 years of experience working in higher education environments. A running joke among student affairs professionals from all different types of institutions is, “the two complaints we get are always about food and parking.” As I transitioned to UP, I fully expected to hear from students regarding their dissatisfaction with UP’s meal plan options and the quality of the food. To my pleasant surprise, fielding meal plan complaints has not been an issue I’ve had to focus my attention on.

This is a company that solicits and responds to feedback in a timely and consistent fashion. They are part of our University and bring a positive contribution to campus life. Pioneer College Caterers has been a superior partner with McMurry University for the six years of our affiliation. Whether it is the day-to-day lunches for the general student population or an exquisite, specialized dining experience for trustees or major donors and community leaders, the quality of the food and service is exceptional. We recently finished our Homecoming 2021 set of activities. We had a variety of events that had different types of dining experiences: tailgate, formal dinner, snacks, and receptions with heavy hors d’oeuvres. The Pioneer experience was remarkable.
One of the characteristics that has always impressed me since we began our partnership with Pioneer is the alignment of Pioneer with the small college or university mission. The transition to Pioneer, which delivers a very personal boutique experience, is reminiscent of the environment of small faith-based universities. The students and our other guests feel like they are cared for by the personnel in both the quality of the food and the quality of the service. When the university has faced some serious challenges (such as adapting to CoVid protocols and/or dealing with below freezing temperatures for a week), Pioneer went out of their way to help university personnel deliver the necessary sustenance to our students – no matter how difficult the circumstances might be.
